Student Wellbeing

At Queen Eleanor Academy, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. It is not treated as a bolt-on or a one-time intervention, but as a daily, living commitment woven into our curriculum, routines, and relationships. We believe that when children feel safe, valued, and supported, they are empowered to learn, grow, and lead.

We are proud to offer a whole-school, whole-child approach to wellbeing — one rooted in the belief that belonging, voice, and purpose are the foundations of emotional and mental health. That belief is embedded in our comprehensive Personal Development (PD) framework, which is a key driver of our culture and curriculum.

The Personal Development Framework: Building Skills for Life

Our PD framework is intentionally designed to help every child develop the skills, mindset, and character needed to thrive – not just in school, but in life. It prioritises:

  • Oracy and Communication: We explicitly teach and practise the skills of expressing ideas clearlylistening activelydebating respectfully, and resolving conflict constructively. Through talk-based learning, assemblies, circle times, performances and debates, pupils build the confidence to share their views and advocate for themselves and others.
  • Emotional Literacy and Self-Regulation: Pupils learn how to understand, label, and manage their emotionsthrough our PSHE and RSE curriculum, supported by tools such as mood meters, zones of regulation, and restorative conversations. We teach children how to pause, reflect, and respond — rather than react — building their capacity for empathy, resilience and healthy relationships.
  • Character and Values: We promote kindness, responsibility, respect, and curiosity through all aspects of school life. These are not just words on a wall – they are actively modelled, discussed, and celebrated across the curriculum.
  • Personal Responsibility and Leadership: We nurture independence and self-efficacy, empowering pupils to see themselves as active contributors to their school and the wider world.

Student Voice and Leadership

We believe wellbeing comes from having a voice – and knowing that it matters. That’s why student voice is not just welcomed, but actively built into the structure of our school. Through student leadership roles, pupils learn the value of teamwork, decision-making, and driving positive change.

Whether serving on the School Council, acting as Peer Mentors, leading on eco-projects, or shaping assemblies, our young leaders experience the pride and purpose that comes from being part of something bigger than themselves.

Their voice also helps shape our curriculum and provision. We listen closely to feedback from pupils and families and adapt our curriculum in response — because true wellbeing grows in communities that feel heard, respected, and connected.

Daily Practice That Supports Every Child

Wellbeing is experienced not just in specialist sessions, but in every corner of our school day. We cultivate it through:

  • PSHE and RSE education rooted in real-world themes
  • Themed, celebration and music assemblies that reflect lived experiences
  • Wellbeing Club and Nurture Group for targeted emotional support
  • Sensory provision to support regulation and readiness for learning
  • Forest School – developing confidence, collaboration and calm through nature
  • The Golden Mile – a joyful, weekly commitment to physical activity and mental reset
  • Healthy school meals that promote nutrition and social connection
  • A rich enrichment and co-curricular programme offering new skills, creativity and friendships
  • A culture of recognition – we celebrate effort, achievement, kindness and growth in all forms

More Than Events: Wellbeing for Life

While we do mark national mental health and wellbeing awareness events across the year, our approach goes deeper. We believe true wellbeing is built from consistent, meaningful experiences – being known, valued, included, and successful. These are the everyday building blocks of confidence and emotional resilience.

Our Commitment

At Queen Eleanor Academy, we are united in our determination to provide every child with the tools, opportunities and relationships that help them thrive – now and into the future. We take this responsibility seriously. Because when children feel empowered, listened to, and loved – there are no limits to what they can achieve.
