Reception Maths Morning at Queen Eleanor Academy

Our Reception Maths Morning was a wonderful opportunity for children and families to learn, play and explore mathematics together.

The session forms part of our wider commitment to strengthening parental engagement and building positive home–school partnerships. By inviting parents and carers into the classroom, we were able to share how mathematics is taught in the Early Years and demonstrate the important role that purposeful play, mathematical talk and practical exploration have in developing children’s understanding.

Families explored a range of fun, hands-on activities and games designed to develop early mathematical skills, including counting, recognising numbers, noticing patterns, comparing quantities and developing number sense. Parents and carers were also able to see how everyday experiences can create valuable opportunities for mathematical learning at home.

We provided maths packs containing accessible games, resources and ideas to help families continue the learning beyond the classroom. From counting objects and spotting numbers to playing games, sorting items and talking about shapes and patterns, these activities show that mathematics can be part of everyday family life without the need for formal worksheets.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us and embraced the opportunity to learn alongside their children. Your involvement helps build confidence, encourages positive attitudes towards mathematics and supports the strong foundations children need for future learning.
