Celebrating Culture, Community and Healthy Eating at Queen Eleanor Academy
At Queen Eleanor Academy, we believe that a school is far more than a place of learning - it is the heart of a community, a place where every family feels they belong. Nowhere was this more evident than at our recent Culture Day, a joyful celebration of the wonderfully diverse tapestry of families who make our school the special place that it is.
A Celebration of Who We Are
With over 70% of our children coming from EAL (English as an Additional Language) families, our school is a vibrant reflection of the world itself. On Culture Day, our corridors and classrooms came alive with colour as children arrived dressed in clothing representing their cultural heritage and origins. From traditional dress spanning continents, our pupils wore their identities with pride - and it was truly a sight to behold.
But the highlight of the day was undoubtedly our community lunch. Families were invited to bring in dishes from home, and the response was overwhelming. The result was a feast that spanned the globe: rich European classics, aromatic Asian delicacies, and even flavourful specialities from South America. Parents, carers, staff and children gathered together to share food, stories and laughter - exactly the kind of warmth and togetherness we strive to nurture every single day.
Recognition for Our Healthy Eating Journey
This celebration comes at a particularly proud moment for our school. In the past twelve months, Queen Eleanor Academy has been awarded both the Silver Healthy Schools Award and the prestigious Soil Association Award -recognition of our unwavering commitment to healthy eating and to educating our children about where their food comes from.
We were delighted to recently welcome visitors from Public Health Northamptonshire and the Soil Association, who came to praise the work we have done in supporting healthy eating and championing our 'farm to plate' education. Helping our children understand the journey their food takes - from the soil to the plate in front of them - is about far more than nutrition. It's about respect for the environment, appreciation for the food we eat, and giving our young people the knowledge to make healthy choices for life.
A Word from Our Headteacher
"Culture Day was one of the proudest moments of my time at Queen Eleanor Academy," said Headteacher Magnus Wallace. "To see our families come together - to share their heritage, their traditions and their food - reminded me exactly why building strong links with our community matters so much. Our diversity is our greatest strength and events like this are what turn a school into a family.
"To be recognised by Public Health Northamptonshire and the Soil Association for our work on healthy eating and 'farm to plate' education is recognition of the hard work done by many staff at the school. Whether it's celebrating our many cultures or teaching our children where their food comes from, our mission is the same: to create a school where every child and every family feel they truly belong."
Culture Day may be over, but the spirit it embodied lives on in everything we do. We remain utterly committed to opening our doors to families, to celebrating what makes each of us unique, and to nurturing healthy, happy and confident young people.
To every family who took part, brought a dish, or simply shared in the joy of the day -thank you. You are what makes Queen Eleanor Academy so extraordinary.
Here's to many more moments of coming together.
